A massage therapist or masseuse are those who performs the duty of working by using various massage strokes and techniques on the different areas of the body in a professional manner in order to promote and improve a healthy condition on its patient. Searching for the right one though needs to be thorough as there are many standards in finding the perfect massage therapist that fits your requirements.

A good place to start your search is by hunting down qualified massage therapists online. The internet offers a good place for looking into the different massage therapists that offers their professional service on different methods of massage therapy.

The first thing to know is what type of massage therapy would you want to have so that you will have a basis on who you will be looking for. For example you chose Swedish massage, you will then only look for therapists who are good in performing that type of massage therapy or specializes in that method.

Narrowing down your search should be based on several factors such as the ones listed below:

Hygiene – a good massage therapist knows that the type of work he or she is into requires physical contact. In this case he or she should be clean and presentable at all times in order to not only make a good impression but also to make the client comfortable without worrying about his or her health. The therapist should also make sure that the room, massage table, loose towel and clothes should be clean and should smell pleasant for the customer’s satisfaction.

Limitations – the therapist should be professional enough to know his or her boundaries and should not take any sexual advantage to his or her patient. Their actions and intentions on touching the patient’s body should only be focused on the treatment and not for intimacy or sexual desire. A good and professional massage therapist should never touch the genitalia or anus of the client.

Quality service – in order to have repeat business, a good masseuse will see to it that what service he or she provides for the client is only of quality service. By doing this, the patient will get the money’s worth and will keep on coming back for more for a satisfying service rendered by the massage therapist.

Non-discrimination – the massage therapist should never choose his or her clients. Whether the patient is old, young, male, female, black, white, tall, short and race, the masseuse should give the same service he or she gives to the other customers. Anyone reported discriminating or turning down any request of service shall be given adequate penalties and punishment by the governing state.

Approachable – being approachable and easy to get along with is the best way to draw customers that is why when searching for the right massage therapist, look for someone you know you are comfortable with. An approachable person is someone you know you are comfortable with that is why that type of person is the best individual where you start your search.

A discussion on alternative medicine always has people being on the extremes- they are either staunch supporters or aggressive naysayers. The only thing that’s common between those who agree and those who don’t is the fact that almost everyone has misunderstood it. This article attempts to explain the differences between alternative and conventional medicine.

The concept of alternative medicine as an ‘alternative’ is native only to those western minds that have not been introduced to any other field of medicine, except the one’s taught in medical schools. For more than 80% of the world’s population, this is not an alternative medicine, but a basic part of their health system. The term encompasses a wide array of systems that ranges from Ayurveda to Accupuncture and even Bee Sting Therapy.

But if you’re looking for some instant action, these systems aren’t the right choice. For trauma and emergency care, allopathic medicine is the right choice. If you’re looking to first get rid of the symptoms that occur due the illness, then it’s best that you choose from conventional therapy, because alternative medicines take time to heal. But the relief is long lasting; in fact permanent in some cases. The focus is to prevent the problem from occurring again.

When practitioners of alternative medicine prescribe a treatment, they do so by evaluating the patients’ needs and choose a treatment plan that ‘they’ think is correct as opposed to the strict ‘symptom-treatment’ rule of conventional physicians.

Also, don’t be surprised if you were to go for a headache and the practitioner were to examine your feet. This may come as a surprise for many who are accustomed to the conventional practitioner’s ‘organ specific’ treatment approach. The ancient Indian system of Ayurveda for instance believes in the balance of Pitha (represented by fire and water), Kapha(water and earth) and Vatta (air and ether). An imbalance in these three doshas causes problems in the body, the symptoms of which can be varied.

Alternative or conventional, at the end of the day what matters is the effectiveness of the treatment to help you cure your illness and prevent its recurrence. So long as it works without causing other side effects, nothing is alternative. The problem however arises when people try and sell voodoo and other mumbo jumbo as alternative medicine. There are some that try and sell concepts that are beyond the purview of their practice. A massage therapist claiming to cure back aches is one thing; his claim of curing polio is completely different.

Before you choose on a treatment plan, make sure you understand what you are using and decide if it will work for you.

If you are thinking of opening a massage therapy clinic, you may not get much of an education in business administration from a massage therapy school. Most massage courses spend many hours on the various massage modalities, from aromatherapy massage to Zero balancing, but they often skip over how to get started once you graduate.

What do you know about professional business practices? What is your expertise in bookkeeping, data entry, accounting, marketing, office administration, or human resources? If you plan to be a successful businessperson, these skills should all be part of your repertoire before you open your own massage therapy clinic.

The public’s growing interest in natural health care has tripled the use of massage as a healthcare alternative in the past decade. In fact, the most widespread approach to natural healing in the United States is currently the practice of massage therapy. And, while there is now a wide range of opportunities for massage therapists, most students are less than prepared to take on a real-world massage business after graduating from massage school.

If your goal is to open a massage therapy business, be sure the massage training you receive will include instruction on good business practices. Otherwise, you may be left out in the cold. If your massage course has no business training, why not enroll in a few concentrated business administration classes at your local community college or vocational school? Such a course will help you gain the confidence and professionalism you need to manage a massage therapy business of your own.

Additionally, you must be knowledgeable about the local regulations that apply to massage therapists and massage practices. Specific regulations and licensing requirements can vary greatly from region to region. Some states require the massage therapist to be certified by a national board; some will require massage professionals to attend continuing education classes; some require recertification every year; some will insist that massage professionals gain approval from a peer review board. These are just a few of the regional variations that you will want to be aware of before you begin practicing massage.

There is one key to a successful career in massage therapy: find an excellent massage therapy school. A solid massage therapy education from an accredited massage school will include assistance with good business practices; if not, you should get some business training elsewhere. Also, seek the advice of practicing massage professionals in your region. Then, upon graduation, check with local authorities before opening your massage business.
